FRIDAY, MAY 10 - KSEE CONCERT SERIES, CLOVIS, CA.
As the stage is being built we arrive at 4th and Pollasky. They bring the stage in a truck in sections and lock them together. The PA system is run by Gene Day who does good work on sound. Scott Bolsta on sax is playing with the band tonight. Super sax and has performed at my shows since '05. The TV host is AJ Fox who calls the weather for KSEE TV. The temperature is warm but not hot as projected in the next couple of days. The streets are lined with vendors selling produce and snacks. Lots of families, kids and people have brought folding chairs early to get a good spot to watch the show.
 
We sound check on Cool Runnin' from one of my early albums and Gene dials in the sound. Then after an introduction the band charges into the songs. Warming up on each song, getting used to the sound mix and settling in. There are a lot of people here and it is great to play a big show close to Visalia. After the first show my long time friend Robert C. and his daughter Crystal along with her date Russ say hello. Nice surprise! We visit and Crystal is excited about graduation from Cal State Fresno University!
 
With the next show blazing along suddenly I break a string on my Strat guitar on the Ballad of John Lee. I pick up my Les Paul which i rarely play at shows and move into the next song. The sound on my amps is set for the strat so there is adjustment needed but I can only work from my guitar controls. With maybe 20 minutes left I look at the set list and play the songs that might work best for the Les Paul guitar. It goes well with some small issues and we bring the show to a close at 8:30. You always feel the need to play well at a show this big. After the gear is in the truck we are on our way. Feeling good about playing local and having it be a success! Thank you to KSEE TV for booking us! The crowd was awesome and very supportive. Central Valley is a good place to live.

First show back after jamming with Jeff Beck in Las Vegas. Rippin' on guitar with Stan Hack and Brian Beal. Great crowd tonight, with lots of dancing. Thank you to my Three Rivers friends! The weather is great and we are playing lots of songs from Blues Magic album. I am playing through two 50 watt Mesa heads into a stereo Mesa cab. Brian left his back up Bass at the club. A bit of worry over night, but it is there in the morning when he calls. Later he lets me know he has it back in Visalia. Makes for a great gig!

This is a great time of year in the Central Valley! Today Stan, Brian and I drive south to Bakersfield. This event is a motorcycle rally to raise money to fight cancer. Early show as the riders come in from the run there will be music and BBQ on the patio. The location is Ethel's Old Corral and it is an historic road house on the edge of town. This small town north of Bakersfield is called Oil Town. There are miles of oil pumps pulling oil from the ground like Texas or Oklahoma. At one point in history this was a boom town that brought thousands of people here looking for work. Bakersfield to the south became Nashville West with Buck Owens and Merl Haggard leading the way with music hits on the radio. These days it still pumps lots of oil but is a quiet town for people who work in Bakersfield. Ethel's still has the corral out back and lots of people ride their horse here for a cold drink. It is a classic Central California Valley location with, food, drink, patio, open gravel parking and bike riders
 
Today the show goes really well, with money for a good cause raised and everyone enjoying a fun afternoon.

Stan, Brian and I work a local area gig. This is a popular bar about a half hour from Visalia. Two towns over on the 198 highway. There is a very famous Naval air base  near here. The top US military jets are based here to protect the west coast. The town also has a well known casino called Tachi palace. They put on concerts and the town is surrounded by fields for Ag. The local crowd knows each other and enjoys spending time relaxing with some beer and good songs.
